A lot of you people must be thinking why would I write about the age old debate about the most common topic? Various discussions,participations,debates,arguments and defensive actions had been taken on this subject.The why am I writing about it? Simple,because it is the only thing which is common across various demographics and is affecting our lives in many ways.So let me tell you what I feel about the biggest phenomenon and how it changed the phase from information gathering to entertainment,from confidential to security issues and from socializing to hunting for jobs online.
When I first had internet installed at my place,it was something which would be considered as an ocean that has many things to explore.Where to go,what to do,how to do,all these questions were dancing in my mind.I had a dial-up connection which connects through landline phones and during the course of connection,no phone calls would or can come.Those were the days where cell phones was a luxury and maximum a person could achieve would be a pager.Mom used to constantly crib about two things,one would be that the phone would be always come engaged whenever she used to call and the other was the huge telephone bill.
As technological upgraded ,I also shifted to cable connection,where there would be 24/7 cable connection.It overcame mom's complaints and made us available to the galaxy of online universe throughout.The first thing I got addicted to was 'Yahoo messenger'.First me and my friends used to chat with each other for the sake of it,because it was something new and trendy for us.Then I came across something called as 'chatrooms',where we can chat with the entire world.But things started to become from exiting to monotonous and from good to worse.Soon I realised it was taking a toll on my life and I drifted apart from it.
Next came the very first step into the world of social networking - 'ORKUT'.It was something which was very very very new to our generation (I was 16 years old at that time).The idea of 'scraps' was very unique and intrigue.Soon orkut filled with people across the world and used to chat with my friends through orkut.There were many social networking sites available like 'HI5','myspace',but orkut pulled the crowed like anything.
This was just the communication part.But internet soon came to be something more than just information collection or communication.Videos,torrents,music became part of our daily life,It was like;if the PC doesn't have an internet connection,then it is just another furniture in the house.
Internet in true terms is a bane if we look into it in that way.The only bane is ourselves.It depends upon us how we use or misuse the online medium.It is a man-made creation to serve the purpose of need or fill the gap.
Internet era has arrived and it here to stay till eternity.
